Pennsic plans
Jul. 13th, 2008 | 03:21 pm
Yesterday Brittney took everything to California to get packed into the truck for Pennsic, so thank god that part of the trip is over. Unfortunately we realize that night that Beez's rapier didn't get packed so we're going to have to ship that.
Now all we have to do is get a little bit of new garb sewn, a new Midlands fighting tunic made for me, get me new boots in town (or we're gonna have to buy some ASAP on site at Pennsic), and then get Beez packed and ready to leave on the 26th and then me leave on August 2nd.
BTW who all is going??

My weekend
Feb. 17th, 2008 | 08:30 pm
location: finally at a dry, not-muddy, warm home
music: none yet, need to focus on writing
All the scenarios were fought hard by everyone, and our barony led the charge almost every time, providing some of the hardest fighting from anyone on the field. This however came at a cost. On Friday during the final battle, the town battle, the Barony of Starkhafn (my home and the newest part of my family) lost one of our newest fighters on the field of combat. His name was just simply Al, he had only been playing in the SCA for a few months and therefor had not picked out a name or persona, or anything really. He knew he liked to fight and that the SCA was a fun place to be. He was in his early 40s and unfortunately his body felt that it was his time to go. Al unfortunately passed from this earth after a heart attack, most likely caused by an unknown heart condition that was aggravated by the stress of SCA combat. It was great loss to us all, some felt it much more than others. I personally had just met him that day on the field, so while I was saddened by the loss I felt more pain for the hurt that was being felt by those that knew him.
In memory of him the entire Caidan army wore a black armband in his honor, and his Majesty Edric took the field in not only a shroud of black as a sign of mourning but also proudly wore the Starkhafn tabard into battle along side us. While we grieved our loss, we used that day to not feel sadness or dispair, but instead used it as a day of honor and commemoration. It was a honorable way to go for such a brave new warrior. So, do not let this post bring you a heavy heart for there were much more positive things that took place on the field.
As some of you know our roomate is also in the SCA, Sir Tearloch from Artemesia. He has a reputation as being one of the best spearman in this part of the known world, if not in the entire SCA. He also traditionally runs with one the best spear units in this half of the world. Since we have become great friends that trust each other greatly on the field I was honored to run spear next to him almost the entire day, and every time we took the field we were sent up against the best spearman at Estrella War. On my way to war I was told by Vargas that I was to kill a total of 45 people that day, 10 for him, 20 for his lady, and 5 for each of my squire brothers and sister, and on top of that one duke for his neice. This seemed like a lofty goal that as the battles progressed seemed out of reach. Coming into the last battle I was only at 12 kills, but I did have my one duke, His Grace Rothgar (sp?) from the Outlands. The last battle of the day we faced of the Spartan Warband that Sir Tearloch usually fights with, but because of this years treaty we fought against them.
This warband is comprised of several knights, counts, and dukes. 99% of everyone we saw that day was at least a knight or higher in rank. This battle was also filled the hardest and most brutal fighting of the war, and I found myself surrounded by various knights and at one time His Majesty of Atenveldt. This of course made me seem like a lesser target/threat to everyone at first. That is until I began picking off the enemies ranks one by one, working in tandem with Sir Tearloch. Several of my kills included those warriors of the Spartan Warband that I had been hearing such great stories of. Unfortunately at the end of the battle my total had only gone from 12 up to 40, leaving me 5 short of my given total. At first I felt that I had failed, and then I look back at the quality of fighters that I had been up against, and felt that 40 was an ample number considering that 75% were at least a member of the Chivalry.
That knight Sir Tearloch and myself went out to find these legends that we'd fought against, and it turns out that they were all highly impressed with my spear work. I had managed to get on the radar of about a dozen of the best spearman as an honest threat and became one of their top targets during the day, especially when Tearloch was off resurrecting. I felt overwhelmed and shocked that such great men had so many things to say about me,and I felt that I represented my knight, his lady, my household, and my kingdom well.
That night we celebrated our victories and we packed up to make the early trip home. We were on the road by 8:30AM and home by around 2:00PM or 2:30PM, just in enough time to unload, shower and get dressed for the pro-wrestling pay-per-view that was in town. Yes Tearloch and I went and watched a WWE pay-per-view live and in person. It was a very awesome experience and we got every pennies worth out of it. If any wrestling fans are out there and want to hear more, let me know and I will share. But for now my body is telling me its been a LONG weekend, and I should rest my aching body before work at 4:45AM tomorrow. Goodnight and much love to all.

Your Score: The Otter
You scored 48% domestic, 57% gregarious, 53% trickster, and 26% intellect!

Wild, Gregarious, Emotional Trickster: you are the Otter!
Playful, capricious, active. Otter people are often very lighthearted, playful people who are naturally joyful. During rough times, otter people are often optimistic and are masters in finding the humor in even the worst situations. Otter medicine teaches the value of laughter, play, and feminine wisdom.
This test categorized you based on four different axes of personality, which were then associated with a different animal. The four axes, as well as all possible results are explained below.
Wild/Domestic: This first axis categorizes you based on how much you are drawn to the outdoors, versus how much you are drawn to civilized situations. Domesticity has many shapes and forms, and varies from the joy of dolphins leaping next to a ship to the steadfast loyalty of a family dog.
Gregarious/Solitary: This axis measures how solitary you are. If you scored high, it means that you enjoy the company of other people, while a low score indicates that you prefer a more solitary lifestyle.
Trickster/Serious: This axis measures how well you line up with conventional trickster archetypes. People who fall into this archetype have a sense of humor and an excitable, highly chaotic streak. Scoring low doesn't mean that you don't have a sense of humor; it just means that you probably don't think dynamite is very funny.
Intellectual/Emotional: This last axis determines whether you are more emotional -- acting based on feelings and instinct, or rational and intelectual -- acting more on thought than on your gut feelings.
| Wild | Gregarious | Trickster | Intellectual | The Hyena |
| Wild | Gregarious | Trickster | Emotional | The Otter |
| Wild | Gregarious | Serious | Intellectual | The Antelope |
| Wild | Gregarious | Serious | Emotional | The Wolf |
| Wild | Solitary | Trickster | Intellectual | The Weasel |
| Wild | Solitary | Trickster | Emotional | The Coyote |
| Wild | Solitary | Serious | Intellectual | The Raven |
| Wild | Solitary | Serious | Emotional | The Frog |
| Domestic | Gregarious | Trickster | Intellectual | The Fox |
| Domestic | Gregarious | Trickster | Emotional | The Dolphin |
| Domestic | Gregarious | Serious | Intellectual | The Horse |
| Domestic | Gregarious | Serious | Emotional | The Dog |

About that time again.....

music: Welcome Home- Coheed and Cambria
First of all I'd like to thank everyone that sent me birthday messages and wishes. It was a surprise and it really made my super long day at work go by quickly that day. I got to go out after work and buy a Wii for my brithday present from my dad, which was a big surprise, so that's been my new toy to play with in the little free time I have. That night was fun because we went out with a handful of friends to a mediteranean restaurant and hookah lounge which is tons of fun, and the food was great.
Sunday we had fighter practice and our End of Month tournament, which has become lots of fun for everyone there. It was fought in a 30 minute bear pit style, so lots of good fighting. After the tournament was over I announced that in honor of my 22nd birthday I wanted to hold the field for 22 fights and that everyone that wanted to could come and fight. LOTS of good fights in the begining and middle but by about 16 or 17 I was really dragging. It was nice at the end though because during fight 21 I had two people come onto the list wanting to fight a 2-on-1 which was going to be fun for me, but before we started a good friend of mine joined the field and took my side making it 2-on-2. Then the final round ended up a small 6-on-6 ( I think) melee with me being the main target of the other side. It was an exhausting experience but something that I am very glad I did and will continue doing each year.
Oh then Sunday night Brittney and I went to see Underoath, Poison the Well, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster for my birthday present. When we got there we noticed that the merchandise booth also had stuff set up for a band called Every Time I Die (a favorite of mine) so when I found out they were there I was even more excited. Maylene was great live (they are a cross between southern rock and metal). Poison the Well wasn't as good as they were the first time I saw them, but the lead singer was obviously pretty sick so its all good. Every Time I Die was AMAZING, the mosh pit was crazy and my young brain and body wanted to get in there but the security was being way too uptight and kicking out way too many people for me to actually get in there and enjoy myself. Underoath was disappointing. They started out really good, but then the leader started bitching and some guy and got all preachy. One cool thing is his openness (sp?) about his Christian faith, which is all good and I have no complaints there, but I paid for a rock show, not a trip to Church. After this and the constant badgering of this one guy in the crowd we left early which was fine with me by that time. We got a new sweatshirt from Every Time I Die's merchandise and got out of there before traffic was crazy, so that was a nice ending to my night.
Now this week I'm just trying to get packed and get armor and weapons repaired for Great Western War this weekend. Right now the plan is ride out with 2 friends and be there for all the fighting on Friday-Sunday (that's when all the fighting will be done). I might try to jump into a tourney or two depending on when they are and what the formats are.
That's all I have for now, and I might even post again when I get home from Great West.
